We've launched our Mamma Mia ball

Hi Sunshine News Readers,

We are all very much looking forward to our weekend after what has been busy but incredible week!

On Tuesday, we officially launched our 2022 Ball theme with our partners St James’ Square Law Firm which was very exciting!

Thanks to the lovely Sue, a local dance teacher who helped us to reveal this years theme, by getting guests on their feet and dancing to some classic 70’s hits that we all know and love!

If you follow us on social media you may have already spotted that our ball this year is ‘I Have a Dream’, the Mamma Mia Ball!

We will be presenting a spectacular night of entertainment, food, drink and fundraising for supporters old and new at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park on Friday, September 30.

Following the success of Noche del Sol Ball last year, we can’t wait for this years event which is sure to blow the socks off those ‘Dancing Queens’ among us!

Of course our ball launch wouldn’t have been possible without some of our amazing friends and supporters, including our ball partners St James’ Square Law Firm.

Thanks to Jane and her fab team from the Grand Hotel who hosted us with five star service, Anna and her team at Aura Events for dressing the room for us and proving the best photo opportunities and finally thanks to the beautiful Lauren, Miss Newcastle Galaxy 2022, and Mum Kerry for supporting us on the day.

Tickets are on sale now so if you would like to book a table please contact me directly.

Entries for the 2022 Junior and Mini GNR also opened this week, as well as entries to the wheelchair and Mini 50 waves that were a huge hit with our families in 2021.

Great North Run weekend is one of our favourite events of the year as a North East children’s charity, as it allows our children to take part in a mainstream sporting event that is so iconic to our region.

We have children taking part in wheelchairs or using frames that we have funded.

Children who just 12 months ago couldn’t take more than two independent steps, children who love taking part with their siblings, cousins and friends and children who just superstars for supporting us!

Absolutely anyone can join Team Mini Sunshine (as long as you’re under 17 of course) by visiting our website and following the links to register.

If your child is a wheelchair user or you think they might prefer entering the accessible Mini 50m wave as they use a frame or require extra help to walk, please get in touch with us if you have any questions.

We’re thrilled to announce that our very good friends at True Potential are sponsoring Team Sunshine again this year in the adult and Junior & Mini GNR.

And finally, if you’re a teacher or school worker, we have just launched our Seeds of Hope project this week that is sure to add sunshine to the school windows and yards across the North East.

We’re encouraging local schools to get involved and grow seeds this spring so that by summer, our playgrounds are full of wonderfully different, but equally beautiful sunflowers.

Once registered, we will send you our full Resource and Learning Pack that can be used across all year groups plus, your very own seeds to plant.

Get in touch with me if you’d like to find out more and register your school for this epic sunflower growing project that fits in perfectly with your curriculum whilst teaching children about diversity, equality and inclusion.

It’s not just schools who can get involved, community groups and youth organisations can get involved too, you really don’t want to miss out!

For more information on our 2022 Ball, Junior & Mini GNR and our Seeds of Hope project please just drop me an email at any time, I’d love to hear from you!
