The Sunshine Run is back!

Hi Sunshine news readers,

Its not an April Fools joke, the Sunshine Run is back!

We cannot wait for the return of this much loved event on our iconic Newcastle Quayside this June after a two year break and we can confidently say, this year will be our biggest yet!

We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Stagecoach to bring our much-loved event back with a bang for 2022, and we hope to have as many of you as possible join us on Wednesday, June 15 to paint the Toon yellow in support of children living with disabilities and terminal illnesses across the North East!

Regular readers will know Stagecoach have been loyal supporters of our charity for four years and it's clear they share our vision for a more accessible and inclusive North East.

Stagecoach North East Managing Director, Steve Walker, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Sunshine Run again this year, and the teams at our depots in Newcastle are so excited by this latest opportunity to raise funds for such a fantastic charity.

“Having seen the amazing work that Sunshine Fund does on behalf of local families, we fully appreciate how important it is for the children to receive the support they need for living an independent life.

"We hope the Sunshine Run continues its tradition of making a huge difference to the lives of children with disabilities in the North East.

“As the official charity partner of Stagecoach’s Slatyford depot in Newcastle, the outstanding work of Sunshine Fund is very close to the hearts of our teams across the north east, and we are thrilled to be contributing to such a fantastic cause.

“Sunshine Fund’s amazing efforts provide life-changing funds for local families, and it has always been our pleasure to support such a worthy cause.

"By playing our small part, we know we can raise the funds needed to buy specialist equipment for children with disabilities.

“Our fantastic local teams support Sunshine Fund in a variety of ways throughout the year, and are passionate about making a difference to the lives of local families.”

"We are so proud of our depot teams and their amazing fundraising efforts. We work closely with Sunshine Fund to deliver target-driven fundraising campaigns designed to have a significant impact on the families we set out to support, and are delighted to do our bit.”

We cannot thank Stagecoach enough for the support they have given us over the years, and its clear to see that they are just as excited for the return of The Sunshine Run as we are!

It's been two years since our Sunshine Runners stormed Newcastle's Quayside, so here's a little reminder of what The Sunshine Run is all about.

Runners will set off from the Millennium Bridge and head to Newcastle Business Park and back to cross the finish line in a spectacular photo finish with the Tyne's bridges as a backdrop.

The race is flat and fast and perfect for club, fun and team runners too.

For the aspiring Mo Farrah's among us, our elite 5K wave will start ahead of the main run to offer competitive and club runners the chance to beat the crowds and race for time.

Chip timing will also return as we know how important it is for our runners to get an instant, accurate race time.

In 2019 we were joined by several running clubs from across our region and this year we have even more signed up already!

Here’s our friends from Ashington Hirst, joined by a member of Blyth Running club ahead of their race at our last event.

Some things never change though and our main 5k run will set off at 7pm, just behind the elite wave.

Our 5k fun run is perfect for runners of all ages and abilities, so whether you're a regular visitor to the 'Couch to 5k' app or you've never run a day in your life, this is the race for you!

Fancy dress is not essential, but it is encouraged - previous fancy dress favourites have included bananas, flowerpots and Santas.

We don’t mind if you run, jog, walk, dance or skip across that finish line we just want you to have fun and feel proud of yourself for taking part.

We’ve made an exciting change for this year too, we have introduced a 3K wave, especially for 13-18 years old's who have been keen to take part in previous years.

Whether you're in training for your next race, the Junior GNR or just want to have fun, we are thrilled to offer this youth element for our younger supporters.

Registration for The Sunshine Run 2022 starts from just £13, and all participants will receive a t-shirt to wear during the run, as well as a medal on passing the finish line.

There’s a real carnival atmosphere on the Quayside on the night, we will have live music, an official warm up and our Patron Stephen Miller will be there to set you off from the start line!

The Sunshine Run 2022 has now officially launched, and registration is LIVE!

So, if you're ready to dust off your trainers and get running for a great cause, register NOW!

If you are registering a team of 10 people or more, or require any additional information, please contact our Events Lead Erin directly.

We look forward welcoming you all, lets turn the Toon yellow!
