Fundraising events for 2022

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

Hi Sunshine news readers,

Can you believe that we’re in February already? We certainly can’t, the weeks are flying by! Another busy week for Team Sunshine as we prepare for our upcoming events.

Let’s be honest, how many of us have set resolutions this January and are yet to start them or are still looking for that perfect opportunity to challenge ourselves, take on a new hobby, reach a health and fitness goal or support a local charity??

If you answered yes, then we might have the perfect opportunity for you to say “Challenge Accepted” and join Team Sunshine in one of our challenge events.

If you’ve missed that never-ending 800m final stretch in South Shields at the Great North Run, then time is running out for you to apply in the general ballot which closes on Sunday, February 20.

As the route returns to normal this year, we expect GNR 2022 to be one to remember and we’d love to have you take part with Team Sunshine and our partners True Potential.

We’re encouraging everyone who would like to run on behalf of us, to apply in the general ballot and register for our charity place reminder service through our website, so that you could be in with a chance of nabbing one of our guaranteed places should you be unsuccessful in the ballot. Visit our website to find out more.

Places for our annual trek are selling fast and we already have a fab group of trekkers who will be joining us as we head to the Yorkshire Dales on Friday, May 20 to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

We will summit three of Yorkshire's highest peaks, Whernside (736 m or 2,415 ft), Ingleborough (723 m or 2,372 ft) and Pen-y-ghent (694 m or 2,277 ft) totalling 25 miles over a gruelling 12 hours.

This challenge will push you to your limits and test your resolve in some of the most beautiful landscapes the UK has to offer, but we promise you it is definitely one to tick off the bucket list.

Our incredible friends at The Gym Group, who have committed to supporting us across four of their North East gyms, have even offered a free gym membership for all trekkers up until the trek date.

Plus have offered a free Personal Training session and fitness and diet plan to anyone wanting to improve their overall health and fitness by taking part.

This is a sensational offer and one we’re very grateful for. Visit our website for more information or email me.

This week Siobhan and I had a meeting with our good friends from Gainford Group to discuss plans for Miss Newcastle 2022.

The final in 2019 was sensational and every single finalist went above and beyond to raise funds for the charity totalling an epic £30,000, we can’t wait to meet the ladies who will be taking part in this year’s final in the summer.

If you know someone who would like to take part, there is still time to apply.

And finally, we might just be launching a very special event in the coming weeks, one we know is much loved among our supporters and has been running for over 20 years. Watch this space for Sunshine Run 5K 2022!

Have a great week,

Erin x
