A big Sunshine Run thank you!

Well what a week we have had Sunshine News readers!

Regular column readers will know that on Wednesday night we welcomed our fabulous Sunshine Run event back to Newcastle’s iconic Quayside after a two-year break due to the pandemic.

And what a night it was!

It’s always been a dream of ours to incorporate a youth element and we were so pleased that 2022 was the year for this!

Be warned, this column is packed with thank yous, but bare with me as each and every one is worth it and without them we wouldn’t have had such an amazing night.

Firstly, it wouldn't be a Sunshine Run without the very talented Newcastle Steel Band who were on hand to create the all-important party atmosphere to get runners psyched up ahead of their waves, as well as welcoming them back across the finish line.

Thank you to our good friends at The Bigger Picture for joining us at the event and capturing the special moments of our runners, crowds and families (and for bringing the laughs as always).

Our lovely friends at The Gym Group for warming up our runners and very literally keeping us all on our toes, Our Local Hero Anna Foster for being our glamorous compare for the evening and keeping us all right with timings!

Runners were held to task by the 99th Garrison who made sure the force was strong and got the runners across the finish line for an iconic photo finish with a Millennium & Tyne Bridge backdrop!

We also want to thank our Patron Stephen Miller for starting the race for us and the lovely Northumbria Police Cadets for helpings us marshal the night.

Thanks also to local Morrisons stores and their wonderful Community Champions for much needed water donations for our runners.

It was a scorcher on Wednesday so it’s safe to say they were appreciated by all.

A special mention to Dan and the team at Urban Garden who created some fabulous cocktails and mocktails for our runners on the evening and donated to our charity from each one sold.

Runners and their guests were able to enjoy these in the opulent surroundings of the Urban Garden area and thanks to the team and our old pals at NE1 for allowing us to use this beautiful space.

We can’t say our thank yous without mentioning our loyal friends and event sponsors Stagecoach.

Where do we even start with this partnership? They’re there for us throughout the year fundraising, promoting, supporting and just generally being amazing humans.

The main reason we love them so, is they share our ethos for a more inclusive North East where children are given the best possible chances to be safe, secure and meet their own individual potential.

And of course, thank you finally to every single person who took part on Wednesday and helped us to celebrate the return of the Sunshine Run, you’re all legends.

As is our Events and Fundraising Co-ordinator who was the brains behind the operation and who I’m sure is ready for a well earned rest this weekend after a spectacular event.

One final thank you we had to sneak in, is to Mincoffs Solicitors who have nominated us as their charity of the quarter to benefit from all proceeds raised at their Fizz in the City ladies networking event.

The event took place last week at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with a ‘Summer Vibes’ theme and it was an absolute pleasure to meet so many ladies from the North East and tell them about our charity.

Thank you again Mincoffs.

That’s all folks, have a great weekend.
